The site

« Le Tour des Géants » was inaugurated on the 13th of July 2015 on the occasion of the 67th passage of the Tour de France in Pau by its Mayor François Bayrou.

In the heart of the Bois-Louis, on the site of the former velodrome of the Véloce-Club Béarnais, and on the location of the finishes of yesteryear, re-live the history of the most famous cycling race in the world.

Each totem takes you back to the very heart of each edition through archival documents and texts written by the author Christian Laborde. Discover the achievements of the riders, the extraordinary twists in the tale of each Tour, its anecdotes and also its darker hours during the two world wars.

The manufacture of the « Tour des géants »

The totems were manufactured at the Gillet foundry at Albi, the oldest existing foundry in France, created in 1687. The monument is destined to expand each year : the winner being invited to inaugurate his stele the following year.
